With over 20 years experience in the garment and fashion industry and having established a new Corporate Uniform division in my last place of employment, which included the implementation of training programs to ensure standardised and efficient processes were in place. I had a real desire to create my own business which would reflect my values and commitment to achieving results and giving back to the community.
I set up my business working from home 12 months ago and soon found out that I was isolated and I was so busy trying to meet all tasks of sales, accounts, production, packer and delivery driver. I had no real time to put a business plan together or to even look at other ways of marketing my business.
The Women In Business Program facilitated by Clearly Business offered workshops and mentoring program to assist with growing my business and a place that I could meet with other women who were also trying to meet the challenges of running a business. Each of the workshops was run by experienced facilitators that offered current and up to date information on running a business.
My mentor provided the opportunity for me to look at my business and refocus on my priorities. With her experience and realistic approach I was able to put together a Business Plan that was congruent with my values. Ultimately it was through my mentors motivation, guidance and invaluable coaching that I am more confident and recognising my full potential.
Also through the program I recognised that my passion and committed to give back to the community did not need to wait for my business to grow to provide work place training and experience for the long term unemployed and people with disabilities I was able to start my own personal training and have enrolled to attain my Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. My mentor reminds me often there are 24 hours in a day and anything and everything is possible you just need to set your goals and prioritise your work.
